Reactive feedback control and adaptation to perturbed speech timing in stressed and unstressed syllables

چکیده

• Speakers are sensitive to auditorily perturbed speech timing. Response strategies depend on stress pattern and/or syllable position. Insight into timing requires consideration of multiple prosodic levels. Durational adjustments were often accompanied by changes in intensity and other suprasegmentals. This study examines speakers’ reaction focally applied temporal real-time auditory feedback perturbation a word-initial unstressed ( Unstressed condition ) similar word-medial stressed Stressed three-syllabic word. compensate locally both conditions for the syllable’s nucleus (V; compressed perturbation) but not complex onsets (CC; stretched perturbation). The first, causes global slowing down all segments following (syllable two three), while elicits local only (second) syllable. When viewed larger context, strategy indicates that speakers aim keep relative durations within word constant when onset is stretched, leading compensatory CC V word-proportional durations. In condition, increasing vowel’s duration seems be highest priority, causing take up shorter portion Adaptation effects vowel indicate durational representation segment level. Further adaptation additionally suggest timing/coordination units. Complementary investigation aperiodicity, spectral skewness, (RMS) properties can change along with compensatorily increased duration.

Modeling the durational difference of stressed vs. unstressed syllables

Speech production exhibits temporal coherence among speech gestures, and also systematic modulation of durational patterns as a function of the hierarchical level of prosodic structure, e.g., the foot. Intergestural coherence has been understood with reference to dynamic coupling within an ensemble of planning oscillators, and a coupled oscillator model of intergestural timing has been employed...

: examining l2 teachers’ corrective feedback types in relation to learners’ uptake, proficiency levels, and context types

abstract this study investigates the teachers’ correction of students’ spoken errors of linguistic forms in efl classes, aiming at (a) examining the relationship between the learners’ proficiency level and the provision of corrective feedback types, (b) exploring the extent to which teachers’ use of different corrective feedback types is related to the immediate types of context in which err...

Stressed and unstressed morphemes in Korean spontaneous speech

This paper proposes a pilot experiment on Korean spontaneous speech. Based on a corpus recorded from a television debate show in which we have clear speech expressions with grammatically correct utterances, and less disfluency, like hesitations or emotional expression. Phonosyntactic approach is adopted for a global prosodic form. 4 grammatical morphemes were collected and measured in F0 variat...

Use of formants in stressed and unstressed continuous speech recognition

Stress plays a crucial role in the understanding of speech by human listeners. However, automatic speech recognition results deteriorate in the presence of stress due to the change it causes in the speech parameters. Meanwhile, due to the vast diversity of the presence of stress in speech, a speech corpus that contains the majority of different stress conditions is difficult to obtain in real w...

An Ultrasound Study of Alveolar and Retroflex Consonants in Arrernte: Stressed and Unstressed Syllables

This study presents ultrasound data from six female speakers of the Central Australian language Arrernte. We focus on the which may be considered phonemically marginal. We compare these sounds in stressed and unstressed position. Consistent with previous results on this apical contrast, we show that there are minimal differences between the retroflex and the alveolar at stop offset; however, at...
